Sharing real life testimonials on Advanced Practitioners in Ireland – Pamela Mc Cann

Another GP happy to support and help develop the ANP role in her practice in Bray, Co. Wicklow.
“The ANP role without doubt has a worthy place in every
General Practice. We are a small urban practice in Bray, Co Wicklow with 2 General Practitioners (GP), 1 locum GP, 1 GP registrar, and 1 Practice Nurse. Pamela approached GP management 2 years ago, with her vision to become an autonomous nurse practitioner. Since then, Pamela’s role has organically grown. She now independently manages patients that attend the clinic with Type II diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease. Pamela has been the driving force in the ability of the clinic to implement and deliver Slaintecare’s chronic disease model of care.
Patients that attend our clinic are fortunate not to have excessive waiting times. We believe this is due to the role of the ANP and their ability to undertake an advanced health assessment, complete a full episode of care, which includes complex unscheduled care. Pamela can refer patients to specialist care, radiological procedures, and order, interpret and act on diagnostic results. This all accumulates in an invaluable team member in general practice. Which, as you must agree, is needed now, more than ever”.
Dr Maeve O Sullivan GP partner at the Dargle Clinic in Bray Co Wicklow.
Well Done Pamela and thanks for sharing the significant impact advanced nursing practice can have in primary care. Happy Nurse Practitioner week to all our IAANMP members making a difference everyday to patients lives and improving access to healthcare
