NIPC. An Integrated Approach to Cardiometabolic Chronic Disease

A new, fully funded professional development programme is now available through the National Institute for Prevention and Cardiovascular Health (NIPC). This free online course is designed for healthcare professionals working in chronic disease management, offering a multidisciplinary, evidence-based approach to cardiometabolic care.

Course Format & Dates
Participants can choose one of the following live online introductory sessions:

  • Monday 23 September, 6:30–8:00 pm

  • Tuesday 14 October, 6:30–8:00 pm

Following the live session, learners will complete four self-paced online modules, concluding with a live online consolidation session.

Course Leadership
Led by Dr Susan Connolly, Consultant Cardiologist at University Hospital Galway, the course features contributions from a range of experts including cardiologists, endocrinologists, public health specialists, dietitians, physiotherapists, psychologists, and pharmacists from both Ireland and abroad.

  • Interconnected drivers of cardiometabolic disease

  • Behaviour change strategies in clinical practice

  • Physical activity, nutrition, and emotional eating

  • Obesity pharmacotherapy and bariatric surgery

  • Integrated care pathways and digital health tools

This course is suitable for advanced nurse and midwife practitioners, GPs, practice nurses, chronic disease hub staff, and other healthcare professionals working in primary care, community, and integrated care settings.

Mr. David Delaney

David is the newly elected Secretary. He currently works in the Emergency Department of University Hospital Limerick. David graduated from the University of Tasmania in Australia and started his career in cardiac care. From there he worked in the Intensive care units of the Royal Hobart Hospital, Tasmania, the Royal Prince Alfred, Sydney, St. James Hospital, Dublin and University Hospital Limerick. He is currently a Clinical Skills Facilitator in the Emergency Department of University Hospital Limerick. He has previously studied a postgraduate diploma in Intensive Care Nursing with NUI Galway and is currently in his dissertation year of this Masters in Advanced Nursing Care also with NUI Galway. David will be a registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner once his MSc is complete. David also holds a position on the student subgroup of the International Council of Nurses NP/APN network.
