“Just What The Good Nurse Ordered”. Melissa Hammond on creating the pioneering NurseHub

Strong clinical leadership and innovative service design are central to the future of advanced practice in Ireland. Melissa Hammond, RANP and Chair of the Irish Association of Advanced Nurse and Midwife Practitioners, is featured in The Greystones Guide article “Just What The Good Nurse Ordered,” highlighting the impact of nurse-led models of care within the community.

Melissa’s professional journey,  from early family caregiving experiences to advanced clinical practice in cardiovascular, critical care and general practice,  reflects the depth of expertise, academic commitment, and clinical authority that define advanced nursing in Ireland today.

Her initiative, NurseHub based in Newtown, Greystones, represents a progressive nurse-led health hub bringing specialist nurses together alongside multidisciplinary partners. This model strengthens community access, promotes continuity of care, and demonstrates how advanced practitioners are reshaping service delivery.

NurseHub is designed to expand community access to advanced nursing care, delivering specialist assessments, prescribing, minor illness management, blood pressure assessment, lipid advice, weight management, aesthetic services and preventive healthcare. It stands as a strong example of how nurse-led enterprise can complement existing services, reduce system pressures, and expand patient choice while maintaining the highest standards of professional practice.

As Chair of IAANMP, Melissa continues to advocate for the strategic development, visibility, and national recognition of ANP and AMP roles. Her leadership reflects the innovation, accountability, and patient-centered focus that underpin advanced practice across Ireland.

IAANMP congratulates Melissa on this outstanding achievement and wishes her every success as NurseHub continues to grow and strengthen community healthcare delivery.
