Celebrating Advanced Nurse Practitioners on International Nurses Day – 12th May 2025

On International Nurses Day, the Irish Association of Advanced Nurse and Midwife Practitioners (IAANMP) proudly celebrates the invaluable contributions of Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs) across Ireland. As the nursing world unites globally under the 2025 theme “Our Nurses. Our Future. Caring for nurses strengthens economies”, we recognise the transformative impact that ANPs have on the Irish healthcare system.

Advanced Nurse Practitioners represent the highest level of clinical nursing practice, bringing expert knowledge, clinical autonomy, and a patient-centered approach to care across every health and social care setting. Whether working in emergency departments, primary care, chronic disease management, mental health, disability, paediatrics or older adult services, ANPs deliver timely, high-quality, evidence-based care that improves patient outcomes, reduces hospital admissions, and enhances healthcare access.

In Ireland, Advanced Nurse Practitioners are at the forefront of healthcare innovation. They lead the advancement of clinical practice, influence health policy, mentor the next generation of nursing leaders, and champion care that is equitable, safe, and sustainable. With their unique dual role as expert clinicians and strategic leaders, ANPs are essential in navigating complex patient needs, strengthening multidisciplinary collaboration, and alleviating pressure on an increasingly stretched healthcare system.

Today, we acknowledge the commitment, compassion, and clinical excellence of every ANP in Ireland. Your work is not only reshaping nursing but strengthening the very fabric of our health system.

As we look to the future, let us continue to champion the development and recognition of the ANP role, ensuring that advanced practice nursing remains central to an effective, resilient, and patient-centered healthcare system.

Happy International Nurses Day!

From all at the Irish Association of Advanced Nurse and Midwife Practitioners (IAANMP)
